The Department of the Air Force comprises of the United States Air Force and the United States Space Force. The Department of the Air Force is headed by the Secretary of the Air Force, also known as the SECAF in air force jargon, who has the authority to conduct all of the affairs of the Department. The United States Department of the Air Force was established by the National Security Act on 18 September 1947 to provide a government organizational structure to the United States Air Force and the United States Space Force.
