Did You Know…
Crested geckos, a popular pet reptile from an island called New Caledonia, was once thought to be extinct! In present days, you can find this species everywhere in pet stores, but, back from the mid eighteen hundreds to the late twentieth century, they were ‘extinct.’ Crested geckos were first discovered by zoologists in the year 1866 and after were never seen again and therefore declared gone, and it wasn’t until 1994 when they were found for the first time in over a century! Though crested geckos are still vulnerable in the wild due to different threats like fire ants, they are captive bred all over the world now.
