The New California Republic (NCR) is a federal republic founded in the post-war wasteland with the goal of rebuilding civilization based on principles associated with the pre-War United States, including representative government, constitutional law, civil rights, and an organized military. Its origins can be traced to Shady Sands, a settlement founded by survivors of Vault 15. Under the leadership of Aradesh and later Tandi, Shady Sands grew through agriculture, trade, and alliances with neighboring communities. In 2186, Aradesh proposed the creation of a republic, and Shady Sands established a provisional council to develop a constitution. By 2189, the NCR had officially been established as a federation consisting of five founding states: Shady Sands, Los Angeles, Maxson, the Hub, and Dayglow. Over the following decades, the Republic expanded its territory and influence throughout much of the western United States, eventually becoming one of the largest and most powerful states.
