The Murakami clan was a naval family that ruled over the Geiyo Islands (located in the western region of today's Seto Inland Sea). Its most celebrated leader is Murakami Takeyoshi.

Takeyoshi led his band of pirates into war to aid the Mori clan with their advance into Setouchi, and fought against Oda Nobunaga in the battles of Kizugawaguchi. The Toyotomi clan issued edicts against piracy when it came to power, ultimately leading to the Murakami and Mori clans' submission to Hideyoshi. The clans are said to have primarily been involved in the water transportation industry there after.
