The Army of the Centralist Republic of Mexico was the land-based military force of Mexico during the era of centralist rule. It evolved from the national army that had defended Mexico’s sovereignty following independence from Spain but became the instrument of the centralist government after the abolition of the federalist constitution in 1835. Tasked with maintaining national unity and suppressing regional revolts, the army fought against various insurgencies, including the Texas Revolution and the rebellion of the Yucatán. It played a major role in defending Mexico’s interests during the Pastry War, internal civil conflicts, and ultimately the Mexican-American War. After the fall of the centralist regime in 1846, the army continued under the restored federal republic.
