The Elves of Mirkwood descend from the host of Lenwë, who during the First Age stopped at the Anduin rather than continuing to Valinor with the rest of the Teleri. They grew under Oropher, who led them until his death in the War of the Last Alliance, whereafter his son, Thranduil, took the throne of Mirkwood.
