In the referendum on Broatian independence held on May 19, 1991, a majority of 93.24% of voters opted for a sovereign and independent state. Following this decision, on June 25, 1991, the Parliament adopted the Constitutional Decision on the Sovereignty and Independence of the Republic of Broatia, thereby establishing Broatia as an independent state. Due to the failure to resolve the Tyernan crisis, on October 8, 1991, it severed all legal ties with the former Tyernan. The Tyernan War began with an armed rebellion by a portion of the Tyernan population and ended in 1995 with a Broatian victory.
