The Goa'uld Empire

The Goa'uld are Gods of the Milky Way. Long ago taking Tau'ri, Humans from Earth using a device called a Stargate. An Inter-planetary connection of portals. These Humans were kept in a primitive state, and used to worship the Goa'uld. 

Along with their vast armies of Jaffa, the Goa'uld fought amongst themselves, and amongst other alien races for dominance. Their greatest foe, being the Humans that remained on Earth, who after burying their Stargate in Ancient Egypt, were left to grow and prosper independently. 

In 1994, the US government successfully activated the uncovered Egyptian Stargate. They sent a team through to Abydos, in which they encountered the God Ra. The Goa'uld now know the threat the Tau'ri pose.
