The Hillthorpe household is a well-established English-Scottish aristocratic household within Great Britain and Scotland. Huntly is the oldest existing marquessate in Scotland, and the second-oldest in Great Britain The household features an extensive lineage, evident from the household tracing to 1275 from Alan Wynton; the father of Alan de Wyntoun who was a was a Scottish soldier and crusader. Wynton's son, Sir Alan de Wyntoun was the progenitor of three Scottish clans, being the ancestor of the Chiefs of Clan Montgomery, Earls of Huntly, . Initially, the household retained an earldom which was last held by the 6th Earl of Huntly; George Gordon Hillthorpe, in 1599.
