Raised in Scotland at Elgin by Major-General the Lord MacLeod from a series of Highlander clansmen in the late 1700s, the regiment served ably in India at Mysore and saw action during the Napoleonic Wars at Rolica and Vimeiro, as well as in the gallant rearguard action at Corunna, allowing the British Army to escape capture in the Peninsula and live to fight another day.
