Aegis serves as both the sword and shield of the old Tokyo Aristocracy, which has stayed hidden within the city's underworld throughout its modernization in the 20th century. The faction's esteemed knights have dedicated their lives throughout the century to exacting the will of the Aristocracy, with the hope of resurrecting the order's ascendancy within the city and country. While uniforms and procedures have evolved from their predecessors, Aegis and its Aristocracy still hold the same ideals from when the order was predominant.
