The golden sun disc represents the ancient sun deity Shamash worshipped by the Assyrian Empire from the 25th century BCE, the central Assur figure represents the supreme god of the Assyrian pantheon, the blue waves represent the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and the red waves represent the blood spilled in the genocide of 1915. The Assyrians are the indigenous descendants of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, with over 3 million in diaspora across Iraq, Syria, Iran, and global communities.
