Organized in France under General Pershing in nineteen eighteen, it led the American Expeditionary Forces in the final offensives of the First World War. In the Second World War, First Army went ashore in Normandy on D-Day and carried the campaign from the beaches into the heart of Germany. Today it commands the training and mobilization of Reserve and National Guard formations across the country, headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.
