Kuomintang Party Emblem Lapel Pin

The party emblem of the Kuomintang, the Chinese Nationalist Party, borne as a pin upon the lapel. Upon a field of blue rests the white sun of twelve rays, the emblem first raised in Hong Kong in the closing years of the nineteenth century by Lu Hao-tung, who gave his life in the cause of the young republic. The twelve rays stand for the twelve months of the year and for the twelve ancient hours of the Chinese day, each the span of two hours in the reckoning of today, and together they mark a spirit of progress that never rests. Upon the party emblem the rays reach outward to touch the very rim of the blue, and it is this that sets it apart from the national emblem, where a ring of open sky is left between, worn as a front pin.
