Two snow lions beneath the rising sun — the banner of the Land of Snows. The national flag of Tibet, the Snow Lion Flag, was designed under the Thirteenth Dalai Lama and adopted in nineteen sixteen, drawn from the older banners of Tibet's army regiments. At its center a white snow mountain represents the nation, the Land Surrounded by Snow Mountains, while a golden sun rises above it. Twelve alternating red and dark-blue rays stand for the six ancestral tribes of the Tibetan people and the sky that shelters them.
