Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force (CMSAF) is the highest enlisted rank in the United States Air Force, a unique E-9 appointment held by a single airman at any given time. The position was established on April 3, 1967 and serves as the personal advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Secretary of the Air Force on all matters concerning the enlisted force. The CMSAF represents approximately 260,000 active-duty airmen and guardians through the Pentagon and across Air Force commands worldwide. The insignia features eight chevrons in the classic inverted-pyramid Air Force style, with the Great Seal of the United States centered and two stars flanking the top chevron — worn only by the CMSAF.
