The EOD duty identifier patch designates United States Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (AFSC 3E8X1), the bomb disposal and explosive hazard neutralization specialists of the USAF and USSF. EOD technicians detect, identify, render safe, and dispose of explosive threats including IEDs, unexploded ordnance, and chemical/biological/nuclear weapons under the motto "Initial Success or Total Failure." Duty identifiers were reinstated January 2026 after a one-year ban, worn on the left shoulder of the OCP uniform.
