Ryō-shinogi Yari (Spear)

A "repro" of a 15th-17th century Japanese "Yari", faithfully recreated, for the most part, by Nomino Heavy Industries' Historical Branch Division. This particular example has a "notare" hamon temper line and a ryō-shinogi (diamond-shaped cross-section) blade. Long, deadly and easy to use, these lengthy weapons were often used by rank-and-file foot infantry to great effect, although Samurai used them too. The Yari gradually phased out the Naginata as warfare in Japan changed rapidly during the early Muromachi period, favouring large-scale battles fought on foot.
